Tacky Weddings posted an assortment of gothic wedding pictures for your interest. Now while I am now a fan of this hilarious blog, I’m not a fan of describing weddings as ‘tacky’ because I think tacky is totally what you make it and as long as people are happy and aren’t hurting anybody than they can do whatever they want at their own wedding.

However, I ADORE some of these pictures. If that’s tacky, then call me tacky McTackster. Granted, there are a few…interesting ones, but hey, each to their own.

So, for inspiration, I give you other people’s idea of a tacky wedding:

Gothic Weddings: Tacky?
Gothic Weddings: Tacky?
Gothic Weddings: Tacky?
Gothic Weddings: Tacky?
Gothic Weddings: Tacky?

I also hate hate HATE when people say ‘but what will they think in ten or twenty years time when they look back at their wedding photos?’ I mean, what? Look at how happy everyone is! Even if these people aren’t goths when they’re sixty, surely they’ll look back and say ‘Man, look at that awesome fun wedding we had and how happy everyone was. I’m so glad we did that!’

I just think it’s horrible to call someone else’s wedding tacky. Sure, you can think it’s tacky, but it is NOT anyone’s place to pass judgement on anyone else’s wedding, or clothing, or home, or lifestyle. People are different, and that’s what makes the world so awesomely COOL. One couple’s beautiful ivory 3-tier wedding cake with a periwinkle blue ribbon to match the bridesmaid’s dresses is another persons black and red chocolate cupcake tower decorated with skulls and swords to match the groom’s tattoos.

Grrrrr. The word tacky. I hates it.

Aside from that ‘tack’ word, go and check out Tacky Weddings. It’s great fun.

I’m sorry you’re not a fan of my blog. I know that the title of the blog pigeonholes all the posts into making the reader believe that I think that every wedding I post is “Tacky” and that was the case when I first started writing, but the blog has moved into a broader direction. I post weddings I think are interesting or funny, and yes, weddings I think are in poor taste. Ultimately, its up to my readers to decide whether or not they are fans of the weddings or not. All the pictures I post are either submissions, or photos that are already all over the internet. It’s a blog, which means it’s based on my personal aesthetic, and I think I have a pretty open mind. I must admit that the wedding where the bride has “Fuck you” written on the back, and the one where the Bride, with white makeup on to accentuate the fact that her teeth are incredibly yellow, arrives in a coffin and leads her husband around my a dog collar, are definitely not my cup of tea. But, as you said, to each their own, its about the bride and groom having their day and being happy. My blog is a humor blog, its not meant to be mean spirited. I have never EVER had a bride email me asking me to take a photo down, in fact, I was contacted by one bride that said she wanted as many people as possible to see her wedding and thank you for posting it. So really, if you’re wedding is off the beaten path, who cares what I think, or what anyone thinks, be proud of your choices. I think I’m pretty fair with the things that I choose, I just don’t single people out for not having a white dress and tux wedding.

I said, in my post, that the little flowergirls were cute, I liked one of the cakes… it’s not all negativity. But thank you for reading, thank you for the link back, and I hope your readers enjoy the photos. Sorry for any offense.

Awww, I totally feel awful now :)

It was actually one of the comments that really got me. (the ‘in 20-30 years time…’ one). Now that I read a bit more, it’s clearly obvious you’re taking the piss in a wonderful, lighthearted way. Thanks for commenting, because you’ve turned me into a fan of Tacky Weddings :) The chav wedding was something ELSE!

Isn’t it interesting how we’re so happy to laugh at people who do things a little differently, but then, when our OWN subculture comes up for giggles, we’re all up in arms? My bad for taking seriously what was obviously meant in jest. I’m always saying we goths should take ourselves less seriously. Now I must take my own advice :)

Don’t feel bad at all, I completely understood your position, I just wanted to let you know that it was not my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings or be mean. I try to be really careful about what I post and write, but I admit I often second guess myself and worry that someone out there would be wounded by what I’m doing, even if I’m not meaning to. Weddings like the “Chav” one, I am more openly critical about because it’s more about displaying money than love. Those were the weddings that I started covering, and then I was just finding all these really different weddings that I thought were interesting or fun, and I wanted to share them. I value your input, and I felt it was important to write you back. Thank you for being so lovely and understanding, I like your blog very much. :)

Speaking as someone featured in one of the “tacky” goth photos, I’m really curious as to who submitted my photo. I don’t particularly care if people mock me on the Internet, but I’m a little annoyed with my photos being used without permission.

Thanks weddingskulls! (I’m the smiling, blissfully happy bride in red and black up there) I have no idea who submitted my photos, although having our photos up on our website (while public) isn’t exactly what I’d call “all over the internet,” Heath. I mean, I’ll be good humored about it but I have to wonder if my wedding photographer would appreciate his photos being used without his permission or attribution.

Well, to be more fair, I realized that the photos on the blog were taken by a friend and not on my wedding site. Her name’s Jenny Bowen and she’s a great photographer. I’m guessing these came from her flikr account or something.

    Anyway…

I think most people who find pictures online do so through flickr. I try to attribute every picture I put up, although sometimes I forget, which is awful of me. It can be difficult to find the photographer as things spread over the internet so quickly and lose their correct author.

This goes for everyone, but if you ever see a picture on my blog that is yours or someone you know, and you want it taken down (or a correct attribution assigned), please contact me and I will fix it, no questions asked. I may start putting a disclaimer on my posts, like Creepy Cupcakes does. I do NOT want to infringe anyone’s copyright, only help promote alternative art and artisans.
